"Botteghe"
IN ROMA
Walking in Rome, Christmas 2010

In respect of several artisans wishes I wont name the "botteghe" (work shops) I'll publish, nor name the streets where they are situated. Some of these locals are definitively closed, some are probably closing... Few pictures, few flashes, few intense moments.
This ascertainment is a trial for all of us, a pain, a deep sorrow and a feeling of dismay, because one cannot assist nor help all this category. As a matter of fact Italys artisans are famous in the whole world because of their genious, silent, solitary, and fertile work.
Artisans, sitting in their "botteghe", among wonderful creations delicately hidden in secret drawers or cupboards, were always capable to smile, sing, and go on working, no matter what was happening out of their "bottega". They were holding on to their manual works with love and obstinacy, even in the worst and most dramatic historical moments. Eachone of them could invent something usefull and special, they always found the possibility to survive. Ideas were galopping in all directions. But nowadays the famous "global crisis" is killing them, one after the other. Not only crisis, but also modern way of life, made of plastic serial things, and ready made stuff, sold in enormous inhuman commercial centers. The problem is universal, not only in Italy , but all over the world.
So when one has the chance of discovering a small "bottega", one immediately glances through its smoky dusty windows, or, if someone is still in there, one knocks and starts conversating, discovering with greedy and curious happiness many splendid baroque furnitures or decorations, modern artistic installations, ancient doors and windows, old tools and brushes, everything covered by "dust of Time".
Here goes a deep sincere thought to all these artisans, real artists , modest, reserved, uniques "personnages" of a theatres "pièce" that is closing its curtain
... and ... No Matter What Happens ... All is Still tidy
